NYC in March 2027: St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Auto Show, Orchid Show & School Closures
March 2027 is a transition month with several confirmed anchors already on the calendar. The New York Botanical Garden Orchid Show runs throughout the month, NYC public schools are closed March 9 for Eid al-Fitr and March 26 for Good Friday, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade takes over Fifth Avenue on Wednesday, March 17, and the 2027 New York International Auto Show opens to the public at the Javits Center on Friday, March 26. NYRR has published entry pathways for the 2027 United Airlines NYC Half, but the actual race date remains to be announced. A strong March itinerary should use the dates that are confirmed and keep weather-sensitive outdoor time flexible.

The official parade FAQ says the annual parade is held March 17 unless that date falls on a Sunday; in 2027 it falls on Wednesday.
The official FAQ lists the route from Fifth Avenue at 44th Street to Fifth Avenue at 79th Street.
The 2027 public show runs at the Javits Center with current general admission starting at $22 adult / $8 child.

March 17: the St. Patrick’s Day Parade returns to Fifth Avenue
The official NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade FAQ says the parade is usually held on March 17, moving only when March 17 falls on a Sunday. March 17, 2027 is a Wednesday, so the normal March 17 rule applies.
The current official FAQ lists an 11 a.m. start and an approximate 4:30 p.m. finish, beginning on Fifth Avenue at 44th Street and continuing uptown to 79th Street. Spectator viewing is along Fifth Avenue and earlier arrival generally means a better chance of standing closer to the avenue.

March 26: the 2027 New York Auto Show opens at Javits
The 2027 New York International Auto Show opens to the public Friday, March 26 and runs through Sunday, April 4 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The current official ticket page lists general admission at $22 for adults age 13+ and $8 for children ages 3–12, with children 2 and younger free with a paid adult.
Public hours vary by day of week, and Friday/Saturday Early Access is a separate 9 a.m. product. Because opening day coincides with the NYCPS Good Friday closure, families should expect a different weekday demand pattern than on a normal school day.

The Orchid Show is a strong all-month Bronx anchor
The New York Botanical Garden Orchid Show runs February 6 through April 25, 2027 in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, so every March trip can potentially use it as an indoor-heavy garden day.
The 2027 show features landscape artists Andy Cao and Xavier Perrot. As of September 12, the public event page is still collecting Ticket Alerts rather than showing a complete 2027 ticket calendar or general pricing.

March 9 and March 26 are NYCPS school-closure dates
The official 2026–27 NYCPS calendar lists Tuesday, March 9 for Eid al-Fitr and Friday, March 26 for Good Friday, with schools closed on both dates.
Those closures are especially relevant to families because museums, indoor attractions and other kid-focused venues can see a different weekday demand pattern than on an ordinary school day.
If a family attraction uses timed admission, compare inventory earlier for March 9 and March 26 than you would for a normal weekday.
Several March parent-teacher conference dates affect school schedules
NYCPS lists March 3 and 4 conference dates with three-hour-early dismissal for the affected elementary, Pre-K, middle and D75 students. March 18 and 19 also contain conference sessions for high schools, K–12 and 6–12 schools, with a three-hour-early dismissal on March 19 for affected students.
These are not tourist events, but they can matter to local families and to anyone planning around a child’s school schedule.
Use the NYCPS calendar rather than assuming one conference rule applies to every grade band.
Do not publish a 2027 NYC Half date until NYRR does
NYRR already has a dedicated 2027 United Airlines NYC Half entry page covering the non-guaranteed drawing, guaranteed-entry claims, charity entries, international tour operators and the 2026 4 Out of 6 qualification path.
However, the current official entry page still says key 2027 application dates are to be announced and does not publish the race date itself. This guide therefore does not infer a March Sunday from prior editions.
Add the NYC Half to the dated March sequence only after NYRR publishes the official 2027 race date.
March weather is still a two-season planning problem
March can move between winter-like cold and mild spring conditions within the same trip. Long waterfront, bridge and park plans are better assigned to the strongest forecast day rather than locked into one date months ahead.
Museums, Broadway, the Orchid Show and food neighborhoods give the month reliable indoor anchors when wind, cold or rain makes an outdoor-heavy plan less useful.
Keep at least one major outdoor block movable until the forecast is meaningful.
