Newark Airport to Downtown Brooklyn: Train + Subway or Car?
Newark is usually the least direct airport for Downtown Brooklyn because the trip must cross both the Hudson River and the East River. The simplest rail chain is usually NJ TRANSIT to New York Penn followed by the subway to Brooklyn. A lower-cost alternative can use Newark Penn + PATH + subway, but it adds another transfer.

NJ TRANSIT currently lists $17.25 for the adult airport-to-New-York-Penn ticket. Add the current $3 subway fare for a $20.25 standard full-fare total.
Newark Penn + PATH + subway can cost less but adds a transfer
An alternative is NJ TRANSIT from the airport rail station to Newark Penn, PATH to World Trade Center, then the subway into Brooklyn. With current fares, that is $12.30 + $3.25 + $3, or $18.55 for a standard adult.
The trade-off is another handoff with luggage. Choose this route only when the exact Brooklyn destination and live service make the extra transfer worthwhile.
A direct car removes transfers but crosses the most traffic-sensitive geography
Ride-hail or a prearranged car can be useful for a family or group because it avoids the airport rail, NJ TRANSIT and subway transfers.
