Bryant Park’s biggest advantage is structural: skating admission is free. If you bring your own skates, the required reservation does not turn into a normal paid admission ticket.
If you need rental skates, the current 2026/27 official range is $18.72 to $64.48 before taxes. Bryant Park explicitly recommends off-peak times for lower rental prices, so the cheapest strategy is not simply “Bryant Park” — it is Bryant Park at a lower-demand time.
Bringing your own skates changes the economics dramatically; rental cost is the main variable at Bryant Park.
Choose Rockefeller Center for the iconic setting and simpler 60-minute product
Rockefeller Center is the classic postcard setting. For 2026/27, the rink opens October 10 and the current official ticket pages show General Skate from $22 with a 60-minute skate session.
Do not assume that one “from” price represents every date or add-on. Use the live checkout for the exact date and product because inventory and pricing can change, and the site still says full seasonal hours will be announced soon.
Rockefeller is the stronger choice when the setting itself is part of what you are buying, not only the ice time.
Bryant Park runs later into winter
Bryant Park’s rink runs through February 28, 2027. Its standard 2026/27 hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., extending to midnight from November 19 through January 3.
Rockefeller Center has confirmed its October 10 opening, but as of September 12 the official rink page says seasonal hours will be announced soon. Do not copy a previous year’s closing schedule into a 2026/27 itinerary.
The session clocks are not identical
Bryant Park says almost all normal sessions provide 50 minutes of ice time, beginning 20 minutes after the ticket time so guests can check in and lace up. Rockefeller Center’s current General Skate product lists a 60-minute session.
This difference matters if you are comparing value or trying to fit skating between other reservations. Ticket time and actual ice time are not always the same thing, so read the operator’s current instructions before building a tight schedule.
Bryant Park own-skates slots are deliberately released close to the date
For skaters bringing their own equipment, Bryant Park releases tickets on a rolling basis for dates one week out. That means not seeing a free own-skates slot far in advance does not automatically mean the date is sold out.
Rockefeller Center ticket sales are already live for the new season, so its booking behavior is different. Use each operator’s own calendar rather than applying one rink’s booking pattern to the other.
Both are Midtown, but they create different surrounding days
Bryant Park naturally pairs with the New York Public Library, Fifth Avenue, Grand Central and the Winter Village Holiday Shops. Rockefeller Center pairs naturally with the Christmas Tree area, Fifth Avenue and Radio City.
The best rink is often the one that prevents an extra cross-Midtown trip. During holiday crowd periods and NYC Gridlock Alert Days, geographic efficiency can matter more than a small ticket-price difference.
