Start with the same booking scope
Compare the same travel dates, occupancy, number of rooms and cancellation terms. A refundable room and a nonrefundable room are not equivalent just because they use the same room name.
Whenever possible, enter the full stay total shown near checkout rather than multiplying the first nightly rate you saw in search results.
Add only costs that actually change between the hotels
If Hotel B creates an extra PATH fare, repeated ride-hail trip or another predictable transportation cost, add that difference. If breakfast, parking or another fixed extra will be used at only one property, add it as a known extra.
Do not invent a value for time or convenience unless you genuinely want that in your comparison. The tool is designed to keep the arithmetic transparent.
Use the result as a decision aid, not a forecast
The calculator compares the numbers you enter today. It does not predict which hotel will become cheaper later, whether inventory will remain available or whether a stricter cancellation policy is worth the saving.
