For most Amtrak passengers, Moynihan Train Hall is the easiest place to wait, check boards and prepare for boarding. Follow current Amtrak notifications because gate and track information is time-sensitive.
Do not assume a familiar entrance from an old Penn Station trip is still the best one for Amtrak.
LIRR passengers can also use the wider complex
Moynihan connects into Penn Station and the shared rail platform network. The exact best entrance depends on your railroad, track and where you are coming from in Midtown.
If your goal is simply the fastest LIRR access, follow current MTA signage rather than walking to Moynihan only because it looks like the main station building.
The hall is useful before a long-distance trip
The large waiting environment, clear sightlines and passenger amenities make Moynihan a better place to arrive early than many older Penn Station concourses.
Still keep an eye on boarding information because the walk from the hall to a platform can take time.
Pair it naturally with Midtown West
Hudson Yards, the High Line, Chelsea and Madison Square Garden are nearby. Moynihan can be a practical arrival or departure anchor for a west-side hotel or itinerary.
