The official September 2026 NYFW dates are September 10–15

The Council of Fashion Designers of America says New York Fashion Week runs from Thursday, September 10 through Tuesday, September 15, 2026 for the spring-summer 2027 season.

CFDA’s preliminary schedule says the official week opens with Henry Zankov’s debut collection as artistic director for Diane von Furstenberg and closes with Thom Browne. The preliminary calendar includes about 70 runway shows and designer presentations, with additional collections presented by appointment or digitally.

Important shows begin before the official Thursday start

CFDA lists several major presentations on Wednesday, September 9, the eve of the official week. Ralph Lauren is scheduled to present the Spring 2027 Collection that day, with Coach, Rachel Comey, Cult Gaia, J. Press and Libertine also showing.

That means city activity connected with Fashion Week starts before the official Sep 10–15 date range. If you are using traffic, restaurant or hotel patterns to plan Midtown or downtown Manhattan, do not treat Thursday morning as the first moment the city feels NYFW activity.

The official schedule is not the same as a public ticket calendar

CFDA owns and organizes the Official New York Fashion Week Schedule, but a listing on that calendar does not mean a visitor can buy a normal attraction-style ticket. Many runway shows and presentations are industry, press, buyer, guest-list or invitation-driven events.

If you see a third-party “NYFW ticket,” verify exactly which event it provides access to, who operates that event and whether it is part of the official CFDA schedule. Avoid assuming that a generic Fashion Week ticket grants access to major designer runway shows.

September 11 has a later official start

CFDA says that, out of respect for the 25th anniversary of September 11, the Friday schedule will begin at 10 a.m.

If you are in Lower Manhattan that day, remember that September 11 has separate remembrance, access and transportation considerations. Fashion Week planning should not treat the anniversary as an ordinary event day.

NYC DOT has a Fashion Week construction embargo September 5–17

NYC DOT lists a special-event construction embargo connected with New York CFDA Fashion Week from 12:01 a.m. Saturday, September 5 through 11:59 p.m. Thursday, September 17. The listed area includes streets around Varick Street, Laight Street, Beach Street, St. Johns Lane, York Street, Sixth Avenue and West Broadway.

A construction embargo is not a public street-closure list. It suspends non-emergency permitted work in the defined area and is best treated as a signal that the city is protecting operations around a major event footprint. Check live traffic and event-specific information before a time-sensitive car trip.

The 2026 official schedule is fur-free

CFDA’s previously announced fur-free policy takes effect with the September 2026 season. The organization says animal fur from animals killed specifically for their pelts is no longer permitted in collections on the Official NYFW Schedule, with an exemption for fur obtained by Indigenous communities through traditional subsistence hunting practices.

This policy applies to the official CFDA schedule and is a change to the event’s own participation rules rather than a general New York City clothing law.

Build a realistic visitor plan around neighborhoods, not show-hopping

• Choose one confirmed show, presentation or public-facing event as the fixed point rather than assuming you can enter multiple runway venues
• Use subway and walking for time-sensitive movement whenever possible; Fashion Week traffic can make car travel less predictable
• Keep restaurant reservations flexible around invitation-only events whose exact end times may shift
• Follow the CFDA calendar for schedule updates and the individual designer or organizer for access rules
• On September 11, separate Fashion Week plans from Lower Manhattan remembrance planning
