Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights 2026: Dates, Tickets, Hours & Family Planning
Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights returns on select nights from November 21, 2026 through January 3, 2027, with member previews on November 19–20. The event is ticketed separately from ordinary zoo admission and tickets must be purchased online in advance; the Bronx Zoo says no Holiday Lights tickets are sold on site. For 2026, one Holiday Lights ticket can be used to arrive as early as 1 p.m. for daytime animals before the lantern trails and lights begin at 4:30 p.m. The event operates until 9 p.m., with last park entry at 8 p.m. This year also adds the Children’s Zoo Farmyard to the nighttime experience and keeps World of Darkness and World of Reptiles open.
Public Holiday Lights dates are selected nights, not every night of the season.
A Holiday Lights ticket now includes daytime access beginning at 1 p.m. on the event date.
Lantern trails and the main light experience begin at 4:30 p.m.
Last entry into the park is 8 p.m.
Advance Holiday Lights tickets are required; no tickets are sold on site.
The 2026 Sensory-Friendly Night uses reduced capacity, quieter audio and adjusted lighting effects.
Use the exact 2026 public event dates
Holiday Lights does not run every night between November 21 and January 3. The Bronx Zoo currently lists public dates as November 21–22 and 27–29; December 3–6, 10–13, 17–23 and 26–31; and January 2–3. November 19–20 are member preview dates.
That schedule leaves gaps in the calendar, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Do not plan from the broad season range alone.
Choose the actual date first, then buy against that date or use an Any-Night ticket if the extra flexibility is worth the higher price.
2026 ticket prices reward date-specific planning
Current date-specific Signature pricing is $37.95 for adults, $32.95 for seniors and $22.95 for children ages 3–12. Children age 2 and under are free.
Deal Days — December 3, 10 and 17 — currently list lower prices: $29.95 adult, $24.95 senior and $14.95 child. Any-Night tickets add flexibility at $42.95 adult, $37.95 senior and $27.95 child.
Prices and availability are live inventory. Treat these as the current Sep 12 snapshot and confirm the final checkout before purchasing.
Tickets are advance-online only
The Bronx Zoo FAQ says all visitors, including members, need a Holiday Lights ticket in advance and that no Holiday Lights tickets are sold on site.
A Date-Specific ticket is the lower-cost choice when your schedule is fixed. The Any-Night product allows one visit on any public operating date and avoids choosing a precise arrival time, subject to the ticket terms and availability.
Do not travel to the Bronx expecting to buy Holiday Lights admission at the gate.
The 1 p.m. arrival option changes the value of the ticket
New for the current ticket structure, Holiday Lights admission allows entry from 1 p.m. so families can spend part of the afternoon with daytime animals before the evening program. Select animal exhibits close at 4 p.m., while World of Darkness and World of Reptiles remain open during Holiday Lights.
The Children’s Zoo Farmyard opens at 3 p.m. for the event, and the lights and lantern trails begin at 4:30 p.m.
For families who want both zoo animals and holiday lights, arriving around 1–2 p.m. can deliver more value than treating the ticket as an evening-only admission.
Plan around 4:30 p.m. lights, not 1 p.m. entry
Holiday Lights operates from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with last entry at 8 p.m., but the illuminated experience itself begins later. Lantern trails and many activities start at 4:30 p.m.; other scheduled experiences begin around 5 p.m.
A very early arrival is for daytime zoo time. If you only want lights, arriving closer to dusk avoids several hours of waiting for the nighttime program.
Separate “ticket entry time” from “lights-on time” when planning dinner, naps and winter-weather exposure with children.
December 3 is the dedicated Sensory-Friendly Night
The Bronx Zoo confirms Thursday, December 3, 2026 as a Sensory-Friendly Holiday Lights night. The event uses reduced capacity, quieter music and adjusted lighting effects, while some programming is modified to reduce sensory load.
The zoo also offers KultureCity sensory bags and a Quiet Area on general Holiday Lights nights, subject to the current accessibility program.
If sensory needs are important to your group, compare Dec 3 with a standard night before buying rather than assuming every night has identical effects.
Rain or shine means weather still matters
Holiday Lights is a rain-or-shine event and ticket sales are final and non-refundable under the current FAQ. Outdoor winter conditions therefore matter to the purchase decision.
Dress for sustained outdoor walking and have a plan for warming breaks. World of Darkness, World of Reptiles and other indoor spaces can help, but do not treat the event as mostly indoors.
Use transit-first planning for a fixed family evening
The Bronx Zoo itself recommends alternate transportation when parking may fill. For a timed holiday outing, public transit can remove the uncertainty of holiday parking and the return drive.
Check current MTA service before departure. The zoo’s accessibility guidance points to the #2 train to Pelham Parkway for an ADA-accessible station route to the Bronx River entrance, but service conditions can change.
Keep the return trip simple: after a long outdoor family event, a direct planned route matters more than squeezing in another attraction.
