Yankee Stadium Guide: Subway, Metro-North and a Smarter Game Day

Yankee Stadium is one of the easiest major stadiums in the region to reach without a car. The key is choosing the transit option that matches where you are starting, then giving the station and entry process enough time before first pitch.

Build extra time if coming from Downtown Brooklyn or Queens.

01

Use 161 St-Yankee Stadium for the simplest subway approach

The Yankees identify the 4 train and the B/D lines as the main subway access to 161 St-Yankee Stadium. Which line is best depends on whether you are approaching from the East Side, West Side or another borough.

Check live MTA service before leaving because weekend work and event crowds can change the best route.

02

Metro-North can be better than the subway for some origins

The Yankees-E 153rd Street Metro-North station sits near the stadium and connects with event service from Grand Central and regional lines.

This can be especially useful for riders coming from the Hudson Valley, Westchester, Connecticut or a Grand Central connection.

03

Arrive before the crowd peaks

Security, mobile-ticket access and large crowds can turn a short final walk into a longer entrance process. Arriving earlier also gives you more flexibility if the train is delayed or the first gate you approach is crowded.

Venue bag and entry policies can change, so check the current Yankees game-day guidance before leaving.

04

Do not treat the Bronx as only a stadium transfer

If the schedule allows, combine the game with a Bronx food or neighborhood stop rather than commuting straight back to Midtown.

Arthur Avenue is a separate trip from the stadium rather than a next-door walk, so plan the transit between them instead of assuming they are adjacent.
