US Open Tennis Guide: 7 Train, LIRR and Planning a Day in Flushing Meadows
The US Open is one of New York’s easiest major events to reach by transit. The official guidance strongly favors public transportation, with the 7 train and LIRR serving the Mets-Willets Point area beside the tennis center.
Use Mets-Willets Point.
Event access is also available through Mets-Willets Point.
The tennis center sits beside Citi Field and the park.
Use mass transit unless there is a specific reason not to
The US Open explicitly recommends public transportation because parking is limited. The 7 train provides a direct route from major Manhattan connections to Mets-Willets Point.
For many visitors, this is simpler than arranging a car around a large event and park complex.
LIRR can shorten some trips
LIRR service to Mets-Willets Point can be useful from Penn Station, Woodside or Long Island depending on current schedules.
Accessibility guidance can differ between the LIRR station and subway route, so check the current US Open accessibility page if step-free access matters.
A grounds day can be much longer than one match
Tennis schedules can stretch from daytime into night sessions. Food, weather, sun exposure and walking between courts matter more than they do for a single two-hour arena event.
Plan clothing and charging around a long outdoor day rather than only the scheduled match start.
Keep Flushing food as a separate extension
Downtown Flushing is an excellent food destination, but it is not the same place as the tennis center. The 7 train connects them, so make the extension deliberate instead of expecting to walk directly from the stadium grounds into the main restaurant district.
A meal before or after the tennis can turn the event into a much stronger Queens day.
