Put two real hotel offers on the same footing. Enter each full-stay checkout total, add fixed or one-time costs that differ between the hotels, and estimate the repeat daily transportation difference created by the location.
Start with the same booking scope
Compare the same travel dates, occupancy, number of rooms and cancellation terms. A refundable room and a nonrefundable room are not equivalent just because they use the same room name.
Whenever possible, enter the full stay total shown near checkout rather than multiplying the first nightly rate you saw in search results.
Separate one-time location costs from repeat daily transport
Use the fixed-extra field for costs that happen once or only a few times because of the hotel choice: an airport-transfer premium, a planned late-night car, parking, breakfast or another predictable location-specific expense.
Use the daily transportation field only for the repeat cost difference that applies across sightseeing days. Keeping the two layers separate makes an LIC, Jersey City, Brooklyn or airport-hotel comparison easier to audit.
Add only costs that actually change between the hotels
If Hotel B creates an extra PATH fare, repeated subway or another predictable transportation cost, add only the difference that comes from choosing Hotel B. If both hotels create the same cost, leave it out of the comparison.
Do not invent a value for time or convenience unless you genuinely want that in your comparison. The tool is designed to keep the arithmetic transparent.
Use the result as a decision aid, not a forecast
The calculator compares the numbers you enter today. It does not predict which hotel will become cheaper later, whether inventory will remain available or whether a stricter cancellation policy is worth the saving.
