7 Days in New York City: One Week Without Rushing

A week changes the trip. You no longer need to choose between every major area, and you can spend time in neighborhoods that do not appear on a standard highlights itinerary.

You can leave room for weather and spontaneous plans.

Borough goal3+ boroughs

A week is long enough to go beyond Manhattan naturally.

Good rhythmBusy + slow days

Alternate attraction-heavy days with neighborhood days.

01

Days 1–3: Manhattan foundation

Use the first three days for Lower Manhattan, Midtown, Central Park and one Uptown side.

02

Day 4: Downtown neighborhoods

Make a walking day of SoHo, Greenwich Village, the West Village and parts of the Lower East Side.

03

Day 5: Brooklyn

Choose either the Brooklyn Bridge/DUMBO/Brooklyn Heights side or Williamsburg/Greenpoint.

04

Day 6: Queens

Astoria, Long Island City, Flushing and Jackson Heights offer very different versions of Queens. Pick one or two based on food, parks, museums or skyline views.

05

Day 7: leave it flexible

Use the final day for something weather-dependent, a repeat neighborhood, shopping, a museum you skipped, or a slower park day.
