Inwood is one of the clearest ways to see how different Manhattan becomes when you keep going north. The neighborhood combines dense residential streets with major green space and a geography that feels far removed from Midtown even though you are still on the island of Manhattan.

Inwood is too far from the central tourist core to work well as a rushed side trip between Midtown reservations.
Pair it with Washington Heights or Fort Tryon so the travel time produces a full Upper Manhattan experience.
Green space is a major part of the neighborhood
Northern Manhattan has substantial parkland and waterfront edges that change the feel of the borough.
Use those outdoor areas as part of the day rather than treating Inwood only as a residential walking stop.

Inwood is not organized around tourism, which means less obvious signage telling you what to do next.
