Parking tax in the five boroughs
Parking, garaging and vehicle-storage services in New York City are subject to a combined 10.375% state, NYC local and Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District tax.
Manhattan adds an additional 8% parking tax, bringing the normal Manhattan rate to 18.375%.
The Manhattan resident exemption
Eligible Manhattan residents can apply for an exemption from the additional 8% surcharge on qualifying long-term rented parking. With a valid exemption, the applicable rate is reduced from 18.375% to 10.375%.
NYC311 lists conditions including a primary Manhattan residence, a personally owned or leased vehicle registered at that address, personal use and a rented parking space for one month or longer.
